Line U9
Between Osloer Straße underground and Rathaus Steglitz underground and urban rail stations.
This line has 18 stations and is 12.5 kilometres long. It connects Osloer Straße and the district of Wedding with the western city centre (Bahnhof Zoo, Kurfürstendamm) and the district of Steglitz.
The U9 is Berlin's youngest underground line. Construction only began in 1955. After the city was divided, the residents of West Berlin preferred to take bus and tram lines that went around rather than through the eastern sector of the city. The densely populated districts of Steglitz, Wedding, and Reinickendorf also needed a rapid rail connection to the newly established western city centre located to the south of Zoologischer Garten.
