Construction
Construction phase 1
When the construction site has been completely set up, excavation will be carried out above the groundwater level. The passageway to the urban rail system (S-Bahn) will also be cut off at this time.
Construction phase 2
After the urban rail (S-Bahn) passageway is demolished, subterraneous curtains and drill foundation piles are installed. They form the exterior walls of the excavation pit, i.e. the outer shell of the structure. They must be able to withstand pressure from the groundwater.
Construction phase 3
The initial pit for the tunnelling work corresponds roughly to the future entry structure (approx. 28 x 25 m) of the metro station. Due to the high groundwater level, as well as the prohibition on lowering it, the pit is sealed on all sides and secured in the soil with anchors.
Construction phase 4
Underground construction of the final cross-section of the station takes place in several stages. This is the longest building phase. All work is done underground, in order to keep disturbances to a minimum.
Construction phase 5
While structural work continues on the station, this phase includes adding a provisional metro platform, and very importantly, extending the stairway entrance as well as constructing a new passageway to the urban rail station (S-Bahn). An elevator will also be installed.
Construction phase 6
Work on the second entry, which is required for fire protection reasons, can only start when the station shell is completely finished.
