As of now, the U55 is again train-less
Today, a heavy-duty crane lifted four metro cars from the U55
tunnel connector. A good year ago, the two cars from the F84
production series as well as an equipment train were brought to the
spur line for test drives.
Since early morning, a heavy-duty crane was busy towing the four
metro cars very carefully through the narrow intake opening to
daylight near the main station.
It took more than four hours before the two metro cars and the
equipment train were ready to be transported away on heavy haulage
vehicles. Since the U55 is not linked to the metro network, all
vehicles, as well as gear and equipment, have to be brought in
through the opening on Minna-Cauer-Straße.
The metro cars retrieved from the tunnel now undergo a general
inspection and are then used on normal lines again. The next
trains which will be used on the so-called Kanzlerbahn, will be
work trains, which in the coming year will provide logistics for
the Brandenburger Tor underground station that is currently under
construction.
