16 kilometres of new tram tracks
This year, the experts in the construction department have
undertaken to replace altogether 16 kilometres of tram
tracks.
In Buschallee (Weißensee), work starts mid April to give the tram a
green track and a new tram stop, this is scheduled to take about
six weeks.
Over the summer months of July and August, it will be the turn of
the old tram tracks between Tierpark in Friedrichsfelde and
Treskowallee. Once this 3 kilometre long section has been
refurbished, here too trams will be travelling on a low-noise grass
track, the so-called "New Berlin Tram Track".
The longest construction site for this year will last from the end
of June to November 2008. The water utility companies will be
replacing the pipes in Bornholmer Straße, while the tram line will
be given new tracks at the same time.
Hindrances for passengers will be kept in limits.
