Real-Time Information
Dynamic information system keeps passengers informed of current tram and bus departure times.
After completing installment of the Dynamic Advice and Information System (DAISY) throughout the Berlin metro system on 20 August 2003, the BVG is now introducing the system to its bus and tram stops as well.
The goal of the DAISY project is to provide passengers with the latest tram and bus departure times on a continuous basis - immediately, comprehensively, and reliably. This includes not only standard operations but also information about interruptions to the service or unusual events.
DAISY is based on a computerized control system known as RBL (Rechnergestütztes Betriebsleitsystem), which has been progressively incorporated in the tram and bus systems over the past few years and is now running at full operational levels. RBL generates the real-time information on vehicle positions and schedules needed to provide passengers with a dynamic information service. Like the metro, the tram and bus stops now also display actual and ongoing departure times.
RBL compares schedules with incoming data
RBL compares and updates schedules with real-time data on vehicle positions. The locational data is registered and transmitted at regular intervals by positioning beacons or axle meters for the trams, and GPS technology for the buses.
