Accompanying persons, etc. & conditions of carriage
Bicycles
Passengers can travel with their bicycles on urban railway and
underground lines, on regional rail transport and on trams in the
designated carriages, provided there is sufficient space (if
necessary, the staff will decide).
During nights without underground night-time services, i.e. the
nights from Sunday/ Monday to Thursday/ Friday, one bicycle can be
taken on the N1 to N9 bus lines, provided sufficient space is
available. Exceptions: the nights before public holidays.
If little space is available, wheelchair users and prams/pushchairs
take priority. Passengers are not automatically entitled to travel
with a bicycle. Please always place your bicycle in the specially
designated areas, as this makes it easier for you to board an
alight with them.
Travelling with dogs
Users of Single Tickets and Short Trip Tickets require a reduced
fare ticket for each dog travelling with them. Small dogs which can
be transported in a bag or similar can travel with you free of
charge.
You can take a large dog with you free of charge if you have a
valid Day Ticket, Small Group Ticket, Group Day Ticket for
schoolchildren or a season ticket.
This provision is also applicable to holders of a disabled person's
pass with supplement and valid stamp. Guide dogs for the blind,
which accompany a blind person, are carried free of charge.
If you have several dogs with you, please purchase a reduced fare
ticket for each (additional) dog.
Carriage of severely disabled persons
Passengers who hold a disabled person's pass with supplement and a
valid stamp can use all means of transport within the VBB fare
zones free of charge within the scope of the statutory provisions
(Severely Disabled Law Art 145 Para. 1 Social Code - Volume Nine
(SGB IX)).
Persons accompanying severely disabled persons can generally travel
with them free of charge if the disabled person's pass indicates
the need for them to be constantly accompanied. In this case the
disabled person can also travel with a dog free of charge in place
of an accompanying person.
DB's "route directory" is only significant for free of charge use
of DB trains if it includes lines which wholly or partly lie
outside the VBB fare zones. This provision applies to severely
disabled passengers in general and is independent of their place of
residence.
Conditions of carriage
The conditions of carriage are included in Part A of the current
VBB tariffs. These are available on this site as a download.
Passengers who hold valid tickets can
- travel with children up to the age of 6 (a maximum of three
children on ferries) and
- luggage and
- a pram/pushchair
free of charge.
