The company in brief

Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe

We keep you moving. While responding to the challenges of a city in constant transformation, the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) wants to offer everyone a pleasant journey and aims to provide a green and affordable way to get you to your destination on time. Our company objective is to be reliable and innovative, and in the process make a contribution to the face of the city – both inwardly and outwardly.

On the international stage, the network density, service frequency and hours of operation of Berlin’s public transport are among the very best, at the latest since the introduction of 24-hour underground services in 2006. Berlin is served by ten underground lines, eight of which also run at night. The tram network is made up of 22 routes, with nine operating around the clock. And of 154 bus routes, 17 travel their usual routes at night in addition to the 62 dedicated night bus lines particularly catering to the needs of night-time travellers.

The BVG works with the S-Bahn and the local Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) rail network in the VBB fare network, making changing between the different modes of transportation with just one ticket a simple matter. Together with DB trains, the VBB serves a catchment area of almost 1,000 km2 which is home to around 3.4 million people. Our customers benefit from our modern vehicles and stations, the majority of which have accessible facilities. This is our response to demographic change and ensures that reduced-mobility passengers can also use our services. Our integrated approach to transport also offers many ways for passengers to take bicycles along with them. Our season ticket holders enjoy discounts at car club providers and bicycle hire companies. We see ourselves as presenting an attractive and green alternative to private transport and as a key element of a flexible transport concept. We offer the choice you need!
