Photo and filming enquiries

We have more than enough scenery to offer.

Whether you’re looking for something new or historic, rolling or stationary, central or far away, the BVG's potpourri of backdrops is like our passengers: extensive, diverse and varied. Of course, this also means that the BVG receives daily requests from photographers, filmmakers and television crews from all over the world. The BVG is always happy to assist with requests for footage. However, please keep in mind that the BVG's core business is the safe and reliable transportation of our passengers. This means that all planned recordings (whether private or professional) on the BVG’s premises, facilities, and vehicles require prior written permission.

To obtain this, you must proceed as follows:

Filming and photography

Please contact the press office well in advance to find out about the procedures for obtaining such a permit. The lead time should be at least seven days, for very complex projects up to several months. Photo and filming permits for reports on current events can usually also be issued at short notice. The following information is required as a minimum for an initial assessment of the project:

  • your full contact details including telephone number, company name, and address
  • a brief description of the overall project
  • a detailed description of the individual scenes and motifs to be recorded at a BVG location (for film projects, please send an excerpt of the script)
  • the exact location where the filming is to take place
  • the specific time period (date, time and duration)
  • the number of people that will be there (incl. team, actors and extras if applicable)
  • for student and school projects: a certificate from the university or school that the project is part of your education. The costs for the authorization depend on the complexity of the project. The BVG will issue a cost estimate on request. In any case, damage insurance must be taken out.

Making music – the sound of the underground.

Making music in Berlin’s underground stations is a tradition at this point. The BVG authorizes the playing of music at an appropriate volume at selected locations in the connecting underpasses of the subway stations, subject to certain conditions. Music-making is not permitted in underground trains.

The license is available here:
BVG customer office (increased fare ticket inspections)
An der Michaelbrücke 10179 Berlin (entrance at the back of the building) on Wednesdays from 8am to 12pm. The permit costs 10 euros per day. Since 01.01.2019 it no longer includes a travel authorization. A music permit is sufficient for music groups of up to three people.
