In December 2024, the BVG Management Board launched a far-reaching change of course for BVG with the “Stability over growth” concept. This was the management's response to the state of BVG, which had reached its limits after many years of growth in various areas of the company.
An aging underground fleet and a tight labor market led to vehicle and personnel-related challenges that had not been countered decisively enough in recent years. The year 2024 was therefore characterized by short-term measures to bring stability to the system and start a race to catch up with its own standards.
In the years 2025 to 2027, the primary corporate goal will be to consolidate the system so that the growth targeted thereafter is based on a solid foundation.
Key aspects of the BVG stability concept:
- Passengers: inform passengers quickly and transparently and increase passenger satisfaction as well as the perception of cleanliness and safety.
- Infrastructure: reduce vehicle-related disruptions, set up the infrastructure with a view to the future and prioritize all modernization and construction projects that serve to stabilize operations.
- BVG team: reduce staff-related absences, strengthen employees and adapt personnel planning to the current framework conditions.
The new strategy is taking effect
Since the official presentation of the stability concept last year, positive results have been achieved. Find out more here (in German).
