Berlin Ticket S: FAQ
Can I still apply for a VBB customer card?
No. However, VBB customer cards issued until 31 December 2024 remain valid until the end of their validity period and can be used as proof of use for the Berlin-Ticket S.
How can I use the Berlin Ticket S (social ticket)?
To be able to use the Berlin Ticket S (social ticket), you need your benefit certificate with your surname and first name entered or proof of benefit. You can continue to use your VBB customer card Berlin S until the end of its remaining validity.
The full first name and surname must be entered on the ticket and the benefit certificate or benefit statement must also be included. The name on the ticket must be the same as the name on the benefit certificate or notice. The BG number is no longer used.
Where can I buy the Berlin Ticket S?
You can purchase the monthly ticket Berlin Ticket S at all BVG ticket machines, in the BVG Fahrinfo-App, in the BVG Ticket-App, BVG points of sale and at private BVG sales outlets (e.g. late-night sales outlets, newsagents).
How much does the Berlin Ticket S cost?
The Berlin Ticket S costs 19 € per month.
What must be entered on the ticket?
First name and surname must be entered on the ticket. The BG number may no longer be entered.
Who can use the Berlin-Ticket S?
People can use the Berlin Ticket S if they receive one of the following benefits:
- Citizen's allowance (formerly: unemployment benefit II or social benefit)
- Social assistance
- Benefits according to the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act
- Housing benefit, household members who were taken into account in the housing benefit calculation may also use the ticket.
- Special allowance for victims of imprisonment
- Compensation benefits in accordance with the Occupational Rehabilitation Act
- Compensation pensions for severely disabled persons or compensation for occupational injuries
- Compensatory pensions for victims of National Socialist persecution
- Prisoners in open and closed prisons who participate in measures outside the prison system.
Can I black out parts of my document?
Copies with redactions are also accepted for benefit notifications. The following must remain recognisable
- Letterhead
- Title of the letter (benefit/grant notification)
- First name and surname
- Period of authorisation
The original must be included with proof of benefits from the office. No redactions are permitted here.
Can I also submit my proof of authorisation digitally?
The benefit notification can also be submitted as proof in the job centre app. Please note that inspectors may ask for it to be opened. However, screenshots or photos/PDF files will not be accepted.
Can I use additional tickets?
A connecting ticket can be purchased for journeys outside the Berlin AB tariff zone.
I have lost my Berlin Ticket S. Will I be reimbursed for the loss?
A new ticket must be purchased if lost. There is no replacement.
Is the Berlinpass still valid as proof of eligibility?
The Berlinpass is no longer recognised as proof of eligibility.
