Culture
Achtung Berlin – New Berlin Film Award: 15 to 22 April 2026
The “Achtung Berlin” film festival is one of the most important platforms for emerging German cinema from the capital region. Over the course of a week, the latest feature films and documentaries by filmmakers from Berlin and Brandenburg are screened, often followed by discussions with directors and production teams. What makes it particularly exciting is that many works celebrate their premiere here and are thus being shown to the public for the first time. The venues are various arthouse cinemas spread across the city, allowing visitors to discover new Berlin neighbourhoods too. For film fans, this offers the opportunity to spot trends and themes in the local film scene at an early stage. Alongside competitions, there are special programmes and retrospectives to round off the festival.

Affordable Art Fair: 16 to 19 April 2026
The Affordable Art Fair is specifically aimed at people who not only want to view art but also wish to buy it. It showcases contemporary works from international galleries, with prices deliberately kept affordable. This creates a relaxed, less elitist atmosphere than at traditional art fairs. Visitors can discover paintings, photographs, sculptures and mixed-media works and engage directly with gallery owners. The diversity of styles is particularly interesting – everything from abstract art to urban influences is represented. The fair at Arena Berlin is suitable for both experienced collectors and newcomers planning their first art purchase.

Cherry Blossom Festival in the Gardens of the World: 11 to 12 April 2026
The Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the most beautiful spring events in Berlin. In the Gardens of the World, thousands of blossoming cherry trees transform the landscape into a sea of pink blossoms. The event is inspired by Japanese traditions and offers cultural activities such as music, dance and culinary delights. Visitors can have a picnic, go for a walk or simply soak up the atmosphere. The festival is particularly appealing to families, as there is plenty of space and a wide variety of activities on offer. The combination of nature and culture makes the event unique. It is a perfect example of just how international and diverse Berlin is.

Spring Festival at Schöneweide Depot: 25 April 2026
This festival at Schöneweide Depot is aimed at technology and railway enthusiasts as well as families. In the historic depot, visitors can see old steam locomotives and trains up close. There are often guided tours, demonstrations and hands-on activities for children. The event combines industrial history with interactive elements. It is particularly exciting for children to see the huge machines up close. Model railways and exhibitions are also often part of the programme. The event takes place once a year and is therefore a real insider tip. It showcases a different, lesser-known side of Berlin.
