What is the Deutschland Ticket?

The Deutschland Ticket is a new ticket valid throughout Germany. From 1 May 2023, it will be financed by the federal and state governments and offered for a monthly price of just 49 euros.  You can use the Deutschland Ticket on all public and regional transport in Germany. This means you can’t use long-distance IC, EC, or ICE trains. The ticket is for you alone – it’s not transferable and you can’t take any other people or bicycles with you.

The Deutschland Ticket costs €49 a month.

Where can I use the Deutschland Ticket?

The ticket is valid on all public and regional transport throughout Germany. This means you can’t use it on long-distance IC, EC, or ICE trains.

Is the new ticket only available by subscription?

The Deutschland Ticket is indeed only available by subscription. If you already have one, the BVG will be sending you further information by email or post from the end of February. If you don’t, you can take out a subscription by going to abo.bvg.de.

How long will the Deutschland Ticket be valid?

Germany’s transport ministers have decided on an ‘introductory period’ for the Deutschland Ticket that will run for at least two years.

How do I cancel my Deutschland Ticket?

You can cancel your Deutschland Ticket at any time at the end of the month.

When is the Deutschland Ticket valid?

The Deutschland Ticket is always valid for the current calendar month during the subscription period.

Can children travel with the Deutschland Ticket?

Yes. 
By the way: Children under 6 years of age travel free of charge on public transport in Germany.

Is there a reduced-fare option for this ticket?

No. 
The Deutschland Ticket costs €49 by subscription with monthly debiting. Given that the ticket is already heavily subsidised, no further discounts are available.

What do I need to have on me when travelling?

The Deutschland Ticket is only valid together with official photo ID for the person printed on the Deutschland Ticket.

Are there any discounts for school students, trainees, students, pensioners, or recipients of social benefits?

No.

Can I display the Deutschlandticket as a mobile ticket in a BVG app, even if I have not purchased the subscription from BVG?

No, the Deutschlandticket can only be displayed in a BVG app if it was purchased through BVG.

Who can buy the Deutschland Ticket?

Anyone
The Deutschlandt Tcket can be purchased by all interested parties. 
Under-18s can only purchase the subscription at BVG customer centers, for which a legal representative is required.

When and how do I pay for the Deutschland Ticket?

The ticket price is debited from your account at the beginning of each month.

From when can I use the new Deutschland Ticket?

If you already have a subscription, the ticket is valid from the time of nationwide launch on 1 May 2023. Otherwise, it’s valid from when your subscription starts.

In what form do I get the ticket?

If you already have a BVG subscription, the BVG will be sending you further information by email or post from the end of February. If you choose to switch to the Deutschland Ticket, you’ll receive it as a smartphone ticket or an electronic chip card by post in good time. We’ll be in touch with all further information. If you don’t have a subscription yet, you can order one online at abo.bvg.de.

Is the ticket also available at sales outlets?

You can also get the ticket at our sales outlets. There may, however, be a long wait. It’s quicker and easier to order it online at home by going to abo.bvg.de.

Is the ticket also available at ticket machines?

No. The easiest way is to order it quickly and conveniently online at abo.bvg.de.

By when do I have to take out a new subscription if I want to use it from the next month?

You’ll need to take out a new subscription online by the 10th of the previous month.

Do I have to cancel my existing subscription to switch to the new ticket?

If you already have one, the BVG will be sending you further information by email or post from the end of February.

I have a corporate ticket and would like to switch to the Deutschland Ticket. What do I need to do?

The BVG also offers the Deutschlandticket as a company ticket. You can find out from your employer whether the Deutschlandticket is offered as a company ticket in your company. The Deutschlandticket including employer subsidy and discount by the transport company costs a maximum of € 34.30 per month for the ticket user.

I bought an annual ticket (e.g. annual eco-ticket) from a ticket machine or at a sales outlet. How can I switch to the Deutschland Ticket?

If you’re an annual payer, the first step is to cancel your current subscription. To do so, log into your BVG account and select “Abo kündigen” [cancel subscription]. Choose “Wechsel zum Deutschlandticket” as “Kündigungsgrund“ [reason for cancellation], if you don‘t have that option choose “Ordentliche Kündigung/Wechsel zum Deutschlandticket“. This is a special reason for cancelation; therefore, no additional costs will result of your cancelation.
Now you can subscribe to the Deutschlandticket under “Abo bestellen” [start subscription].

Can the Deutschland Ticket be used by someone other than myself?

No, only the holder of the Deutschland Ticket can use it. It’s not transferable to other persons.

Can I take other people, a dog, or a bicycle with the Deutschland Ticket?

Children under the age of six always travel free of charge. Beyond that, no other persons can be taken along with the Deutschlandticket. 
Likewise, no bicycle can be taken along. 
The Deutschlandticket does not include nationwide dog transport. Supplementary regulations according to the local regulations of the federations are permissible. Therefore, a dog can be taken along free of charge in the VBB-interconnected area also with the Deutschland Ticket.
