About us

We are the beating heart of Berlin.

With its underground U-Bahn and its tram, bus and ferry services, the BVG ensures that over one billion passengers a year reach their destinations on time in an affordable and environmentally friendly manner. Our aim is to operate reliably and flexibly and to respond innovatively to the requirements of a changing and constantly growing city. By intelligently networking various mobility services, we are actively driving forward the mobility transition. Our goal is and remains mobility for everyone.

In short: the BVG moves all of Berlin, around the clock, day after day, today and in the future.

Our resources for urban transport

Welcome aboard! Whilst the first city buses in Berlin were still horsedrawn at the beginning of the 20th century, we have gained quite a bit of horsepower since. Germany's largest city bus network is in Berlin. Every day, around 1,630 buses travel on routes of more than 1,800 kilometers in length to 6,770 bus stops. It’s time for a quick changeover from bus to tram. Our extensive tram network puts the BVG in fourth place worldwide! 22 lines form a network of 320 kilometers. One last change to the subway: over 1,200 vehicles are in operation on nine subway lines, connecting 175 stations over a distance of around 155 kilometers. You have reached your destination! With our means of transport, we ensure that over one billion passengers reach their destination safely, comfortably and environmentally friendly every year.

The BVG drives around the world nine times a day!

The BVG has moved Berlin for almost 100 years, covering an area of around 890 km². 16,500 employees and counting from over 80 nations in more than 240 professions ensure that everything runs smoothly: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you want to travel with the BVG and don't happen to be one of our 1.19 million ticket subscription holders, all you have to do is grab a ticket from one of the 1,120+ vending machines dotted around the city or simply buy it in our app and step aboard. In total, the BVG stops at almost 7,770 stations and brings our passengers to their personal destinations.
